About Martin, called d´Artagnan

I have been actively playing on percussions since 2003. At the beginning was, of course, an African djembe. Later, I have been discovering the diverse world of percussions from all corners of the world.  Led by Zbyněk (Tokhi) Krupa and Miloš Vacík, I learned to play Latin-American instruments (the congas, bongo, cajon,...) Then I have started to attend seminars and regular lessons of Middle-eastern music. I have been accompanied on this road by Miroslav Čipera, Ibrahim Abu Hassan and, especially, Hearn Gadbois. I am gradually learning to master instruments such as: the Turkish and Egyptian darbuka, the Persian zarb, and frame drums: the tar, bendir, daf, and the Egyptian rig tambourine. Later I learned to play also Irish bodhran and Brazilian pandeiro. In terms of rhythmical preparation, I have also been enriched by the lessons of Ivo Batoušek and by common performance with Edward Powell.

At the present time, I discover and experiment also with melodic instruments, like lyre and harp.

I have many experiences with recording and live performances solo, with bands and with dancers.

Playing percussions of the whole world is, for me, about the joy from music and rhythm. About the joy of communication between people through music, without words...
